Trump Briefly Shelves Escalation of Iran Conflict; NVIDIA Joins Tech Firms to Launch AI Security Initiative: Wire
The temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran appeared to hold on Monday (27th), although Tehran negated reports that it had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire.
US President Donald Trump has temporarily shelved plans to escalate military operations against Iran owing to concerns over declining inventories of Patriot interceptor missiles and other air defense munitions in the Middle East, the New York Times reported.
NBC News separately reported that the US military has intentionally allowed some Iranian projectiles to pass through defenses in order to preserve missile supplies.
The news dragged oil prices sharply lower. Brent crude futures plunged 8.7% to settle at USD88.36 per barrel. After tumbling 7.5% on Monday, US West Texas Intermediate crude fell another 0.62% early Tuesday, with losses nearing 1% during Asian trading hours.
In addition, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) and multiple technology companies on Monday launched a new AI security initiative focused on open models, in response to the continuing impact from cyberattacks involving OpenAI models.
Besides NVIDIA, alliance members include Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US), Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SPCX.US), Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR.US), as well as dozens of technology firms from the US and Europe.
