AMD Challenges NVIDIA Leadership as First Rack-Scale AI System Helios Adopted by Microsoft
Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD.US), after more than a decade of recovery, is preparing to deliver its first AI rack-scale system, Helios, to customers including Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US). The system will compete with NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US)'s widely adopted Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems.
Microsoft announced on Monday (20th) that it will use the Helios system in its data centers, joining Meta Platforms, Inc. (META.US), OpenAI and Oracle Corporation (ORCL.US) in the race for computing power. AMD will begin shipping to customers including Microsoft later this year, but did not disclose financial terms or computing capacity.
