The market kept eyes wide open on the release of the September non-farm payroll report this Thursday, in addition to Nvidia's (NVDA.US) quarterly results. Hampered by renewed pressure on the tech sector, US stocks descended on Monday.
The DJIA once plunged 717 points or 1.5%, ultimately closing down 557 points or 1.2% at 46,590. The S&P 500 closed down 61 points or 0.9% at 6,672. The Nasdaq slid 192 points or 0.8% to 22,708.
Leading AI chipmaker Nvidia, Salesforce (CRM.US), and Apple (AAPL.US) subtracted, denting the blue-chip index. Nvidia will announce its 3Q results after the market closes on Wednesday, and concerns about overvaluation of AI concept stocks persisted. Nvidia dived nearly 2% on Monday. Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) is reportedly identifying a successor for CEO Tim Cook, and its stock lost 1.8%.
Berkshire Hathaway revealed last Friday that it had acquired a stake in Alphabet (GOOG.US), with a total holding value of US$4.3 billion, making it Berkshire's tenth largest holding, which shored Alphabet's stock up 3.1% against the market trend.
Alibaba (BABA.US) launched an improved version of its chatbot AI application Qwen App in China, with its ADR leaping 2.5%.
