US Stocks Resume Trading After Holiday; DJIA Closes Down 628 Pts as Chip Stocks Broadly Hike Against Mkt

US stocks resumed trading after the holiday, with the three major indices closing down 0.3-1.2%. The DJIA ended down 628 points, or 1.18%, at 52,786. The Nasdaq fell 85 points, or 0.32%, to end at 26,421. The S&P 500 dropped 45 points, or 0.58%, to settle at 7,673.

Chip stocks and AI infrastructure shares broadly bucked the market trend to ascend. Intel Corporation (INTC.US) surged more than 9%. QUALCOMM Incorporated (QCOM.US) spiked more than 3% after the company reached a data center infrastructure agreement with Amazon to jointly develop customized AI chips.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD.US) also rallied 5.9%. SK hynix Inc. (SKHY.US) swelled 4.8%. However, Micron Technology, Inc. (MU.US) dipped 1.6%, while NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) also dropped 2%.

Among mega-cap tech stocks, Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) and Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US) lost more than 1.2%, while Tesla, Inc. (TSLA.US) shot up nearly 4%.
