OpenAI said its new Jalapeno chip exceled existing product lines of NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) in tests, highlighting the company's progress in independently developing AI processors.
OpenAI chip head Richard Ho said Jalapeno processors outperformed Nvidia's GB300 in two areas during testing, including AI workload processing per unit of power consumption and response speed.
OpenAI plans to begin using Jalapeno later this year to support its AI models, and expects costs to nosedive when the company adopts Jalapeno on a large scale.
OpenAI said it is using its own AI models to accelerate chip development. Development of an upgraded chip is nearing completion, and the final stage of chip design is expected to be completed in the coming months.
