TSMC Reportedly Hit by DRAM Supply Woe; Apple Chips Unable to Be Packaged
06 Aug 2026 16:50
With less than six weeks remaining before the launch of Apple Inc. (AAPL.US)'s iPhone 18 series and foldable iPhone Ultra, TSMC (TSM.US) hit snags while producing Apple's A20 Pro chips, independent technology journalist Tim Culpan said.

An acute shortage of DRAM memory has prevented completed processor wafers from being packaged, heaping tremendous pressure on Apple's supply chain.

Apple has mainly relied on Micron Technology, Inc. (MU.US) for DRAM chip supply, while also sourcing from SK Hynix and Samsung.

Apple and its assemblers are reportedly scrambling to secure sufficient DRAM chips in order to avoid severe supply pressure during the launch of the iPhone 18 series.
