Investors are eyeing the inflation data to be released this week to assess the health of the US economy. Technology stocks pioneered the market on Monday, with the Nasdaq touching a new high of 21,885, ultimately closing up 98 points or 0.5% at 21,798, marking a new closing high. The DJIA ended up 114 points or 0.3% at 45,514, and the S&P 500 added 13 points or 0.2% to 6,495.
The uptrend was mainly propelled by chip makers, with Broadcom (AVGO.US) soaring 3% and NVIDIA (NVDA.US) gaining nearly 1%, reversing some of the recent declines. Amazon (AMZN.US) and Microsoft (MSFT.US) also ascended.
Elon Musk's SpaceX reportedly splurged about US$17 billion to acquire EchoStar's (SATS.US) wireless spectrum, potentially dabbling into the US mobile network market and altering the current market landscape. EchoStar hit a 52-week high, finishing up 20%.
