US stocks delivered mixed performance as the second half of the year began. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq retreated after hitting record highs Monday, while the DJIA outshone by closing up 400 points or 0.9% at 44,494. Dragged by techs, the Nasdaq closed down 166 points or 0.8% at 20,202, while the S&P 500 also closed 6 points or 0.1% lower at 6,198.
US President Donald Trump and Tesla (TSLA.US) CEO Elon Musk engaged in another feud. Trump posted late Monday on social media that the federal government should consider cutting subsidies to Musk's company. Tesla (TSLA.US)'s stock price tumbled 5.3% Tuesday.
Chip stocks retreated. Nvidia (NVDA.US) slid 3%. AMD (AMD.US) and Broadcom (AVGO.US) also fell 4%.
Major techs showed varying trends. Apple (AAPL.US) rose 1.3%. Amazon (AMZN.US) inched up 0.5%. Meta (META.US) lost 2.6%. Microsoft (MSFT.US) faded 1%.
