Apple Slips 1% as It Revamps iPhone System for 1st Time in 10+ Yrs, But AI Features Underway
Apple (AAPL.US) held its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday at its headquarters in California, announcing the launch of the new visual design language, "Liquid Glass," which will upgrade all iPhone, iPad and Mac operating systems. This marks the first major redesign of the iPhone operating system since 2013.
However, Apple's share price slipped 1% on Monday after the market was disappointed by the lack of AI features covered at the WWDC, with only the inclusion of a translation feature and a new tool for shortcuts. Apple's promised Siri AI advanced version has yet to appear.
The "Liquid Glass" design update includes semi-transparent features, such as redesigned notifications. Apple claimed it is more vibrant than its previous design languages and will bring greater consistency across all operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS and macOS.
In terms of AI, Apple is integrating Apple Intelligence into existing Shortcuts programs, updating Visual Intelligence features that can use the iPhone's camera to identify objects and events. Visual Intelligence offers an "ask" button, allowing users to query ChatGPT about what is on their screen.
Meanwhile, the enhanced Image Playground tool released by OpenAI for the next generation of iOS allows users to describe desired style, with ChatGPT adjusting the images accordingly.
