As the U.S.-China trade war intensified, U.S. stocks slumped on Thursday, giving back a portion of recent gains. The DJIA plunged as much as 2,180 points or 5.4% during the session, closing down 1,014 points or 2.5% at 39,593, busting below the 40,000-mark. The Nasdaq plummeted up to 1,230 points or 7.2%, finishing down 737 points or 4.3% at 16,387. The S&P 500 lost 188 points or 3.5%, closing at 5,268.
Tech stocks faced heavy selloff again. Tesla (TSLA.US) closed down 7.3% after tumbling 12% intraday; Meta (META.US) slid 6.7%, Nvidia (NVDA.US) plunged 5.9%, Apple (AAPL.US) and Amazon (AMZN.US) declined 4-5%. Alphabet (GOOG.US) and Microsoft (MSFT.US) eroded 2-3%, and Micron (MU.US) collapsed 10%.
U.S. President Donald Trump opposed the acquisition of U.S. Steel (X.US) by Japan, denting its stock by 9.5%.
