US President Donald Trump inked a memorandum reviewing reciprocal tariffs on trading partners, but took no immediate action, while hinting at possible tariffs on automobiles. In addition, the US PPI hiked 0.4% in January, beating forecasts, but the key PCE components suggested inflationary pressures may be subsiding.
US stocks rallied broadly after midday. The DJIA surged as much as 400 points to close 342 points or 0.8% higher at 44,711. The Nasdaq leaped 295 points or 1.5% to 19,945. The S&P 500 closed 63 points or 1% higher at 6,115.
Techs kept ascending. Tesla (TSLA.US) concluded higher by 5.9%. Nvidia (NVDA.US) leaped 3.2%. Intel (INTC.US) jumped up 7.3%. Apple (AAPL.US) swelled 2% after announcing that it will release its “newest family member” next Wednesday. Meta (META.US) added 0.4%, rising for the 19th day in a row. Arm (ARM.US) shot up 6.1% on reports that Meta will buy its first in-house chip.
