The market did not take into account US President Donald Trump's imminent announcement of a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum.

The three major US stock indexes prospered on Monday. The DJIA closed 167 points or 0.4% higher at 44,470. The S&P 500 closed 40 points or 0.7% higher at 6,066. The Nasdaq outperformed the three major indexes, and added 190 points or 1% to close at 19,714.

Steel and aluminum stocks inclined, with steel producer Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF.US) spiking 18%. Nucor (NUE.US) and United States Steel Corporation (X.US) advanced 5%, while Alcoa Corporation (AA.US) climbed over 2%.

Market sentiment towards AI-related stocks improved. NVIDIA (NVDA.US) gained 2.9%, while Broadcom (AVGO.US) and Micron Technology (MU.US) leaped 4%. Large techs also hiked. Amazon.com (AMZN.US) lifted 1.7%, while Alphabet (GOOG.US) and Microsoft (MSFT.US) inched up less than 1%. Meta (META.US) ticked up another 0.4%, representing an increase for 15 consecutive trading days. However, Tesla (TSLA.US) shed 3% against the market.
